DePIN Reward Networks Worth Tracking
DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks) lets you earn crypto by contributing real hardware resources — bandwidth, GPU compute, storage, or sensor data — to decentralized networks. Each kilowatt of compute or megabyte of bandwidth you contribute earns tokens that compound over time.
How DePIN works
Instead of paying a cloud giant, users of these networks pay a protocol. The protocol distributes those payments to providers (you) in its native token. You install an app or device, it runs in the background, and you earn. Most networks require verification that you are actually providing what you claim — proof-of-coverage, proof-of-work, or signed API logs.
Comparison table — active DePIN networks (2026)
| Network | Resource you provide | Device needed | Est. monthly earnings | Token | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Grass | Idle bandwidth | Browser extension / app | $5–$30 | GRASS | Active — mainnet |
| Helium Mobile | 5G/WiFi coverage | Helium Hotspot ($400–$500) | $10–$80 | MOBILE/HNT | Active — USA rollout |
| Hivemapper | Street-level map data | Dashcam ($150–$300) | $20–$150 | HONEY | Active — global |
| Render Network | GPU compute (rendering) | NVIDIA GPU (existing) | $30–$200+ | RNDR | Active — mainnet Solana |
| Akash Network | Spare server/VM compute | Server or VPS | $15–$120 | AKT | Active — Cosmos ecosystem |
| DIMO | Vehicle telematics data | DIMO device ($30) | $3–$15 | DIMO | Beta — US only |
| Filecoin / Storj | Storage space | Hard drive + uptime | $5–$50 | FIL / STORJ | Active — established |
Before joining any DePIN network — verify these
- Token liquidity: can you actually sell the token on a major exchange?
- Privacy policy: what data does the app collect beyond what you provide?
- Payout threshold: some networks require large balances before withdrawal
- Electricity cost: always calculate net earnings after power draw
- Token price volatility: $50/mo at launch can become $5/mo after a price drop — note USD value not token count
- Regulatory status: some tokens are considered securities in certain jurisdictions
Zero-device starting point
Grass is the only major DePIN network that requires no hardware beyond a browser extension. Install it, leave the browser open, and earn from idle bandwidth. It is the correct first step before committing capital to any device.
